AARP Tax Help

For many years the Cumberland County Public Library was able to provide space to the AARP Tax-Aide program in order for their volunteers to help local citizens with filing their personal income tax returns throughout the tax season. While the service will not be available at Cumberland this year, we are happy to inform you that you may make an appointment at the Powhatan County Public Library in order to have your taxes done.

Please read the following information provided by the Powhatan library:

AARP Tax-Aide volunteers will be offering free tax return preparation again this year at the Powhatan library.   Due to Covid restrictions last year we were only able to provide drop-off services for most of the season.  However, this year our plan is to return to face-to-face appointments.

Tax preparation appointments can be made online beginning January 25, 2023 through a link on the Powhatan library website.  To better manage our appointments, we will only be opening a few appointment days at a time.  Additional appointment times will be added as earlier times are filled.  

Please make an appointment only once you have received all your tax documents.  When you come to your appointment, please bring the following items:

–       Prior year tax return

–       Social security cards for everyone on the tax return and drivers photo ID to confirm your identity

–       All your tax documents

–       Copy of a voided check for direct deposit of any tax refund

 Free tax return preparation appointments will be in the large conference room of the Powhatan library between 9:30 am and 2 pm every Wednesday and Friday beginning Wednesday, February 1 through Friday, April 14, 2023.
