Summer Reading 2020

2020 Imagine Your Story

(Updated 7/13/2020)

It’s time to register for Summer Reading!

Cumberland County Public Library gears up for Part 2 of its 2020 Summer Reading Program

(Click the blue link above to register.)

This year’s summer reading program will run from May 24 to August 1 and will involve 10 weeks of at-home activities presented in two parts:

  • The first four weeks (May 24 to June 20) will be focused on the books that have been assigned to students by the local schools. Activities will be available for all levels and evidence of completed work will be required in order to determine the weekly prizes which the students are eligible to receive. Since many students did not receive their books until the 3rd week of the program, activities for Part 1 (see the section at the bottom of the page) will be accepted until Monday, August 3, 2020.
  • The last six weeks (June 21 to August 1) will be focused on the 2020 Collaborative Summer Library Program theme “Imagine Your Story”. The theme centers around the genres of fables, fairy tales, mythology, tall tales, legends, science fiction, and fantasy. Each week a different type of literature will be featured and activities designed to go along with it. Activities will be posted below for each week of Part 2 of the Summer Reading Program.

Everyone, including those individuals who are not in school, should log their reading time to be eligible to win the grand prizes given at the end of the program.

Materials will be available on this website, by email, by USPS mail, or by pick-up at the library. How you will get your program materials is part of the registration process. We hope to have thought-provoking activities that will inspire readers to think of their own stories and what they could be. The activities for the second part of the program will include some that can be done online for participants who have the ability to do so.

Program Calendar

10 weeks and 10 Brag Tags – can you get them all?

Each week that students participate by completing activities, they have a chance to earn one of these “Imagine Your Story” Brag Tags:

In addition, special tags are available for students completing the activities for the books assigned by the various schools. See available tags in each school section below.

For registering and participating in the Summer Reading Program by turning in the reading/book logs, all participants will receive this tag:

Tags will come with either a split ring for putting the tags on a backpack/keyring or with a ball chain for wearing. First come, first served, on all items – while supplies last.
